Catalog time

Catalog time! This is a great time to Plan. Also, if possible, prune and hardscape.
Pay attention to water flow for walkways. But, you should be receiving some nice catalogs which will inspire! Go get a Burpees if you didn't get one yet. Check out the Hellebores for Winter. I have a few with BIG bursting buds right now. I love it that they flower midwinter and have nice evergreen leaves for year round interest. They are unique, but are popular and sought after.
Another recent find is the hardy Banana plant, more specifically, look for Musa Bajoo. Mulch it 3 ft in all directions in a zone 6. It grew from 6 inches to about 16 feet in one summer last year. It is only ornamental, but late in the summer it adds a 5 foot leaf every week or so. It really adds a tropical flair. It complements the 70 or so orchids I grow. So get your plants picked out for when it gets warm. Many places will only ship at the right time of the year for planting.Don't forget to order!

A Garden Helper

Hi, Welcome. I hope you will enjoy this, and hopefully learn some too.

I Live in the Northern Suburbs of Philadelphia, Pa. It is listed as a zone 7 or 6B, I believe. I have 10 green thumbs, lots of experience, and I recently earned the designation, Master Gardener from Penn State University. I have a lot to tell about including indoor and outdoor plants and ponds, and orchids. Tropicals are a recent favorite. Stay tuned, and pass the word. Michael
